Maya trailer: A lonely Manisha Koirala goes missing

Manisha Koirala, who won hearts with her performances in ‘1942 – A Love Story’, ‘Bombay’, ‘Khamoshi’, Dil Se…’ and others, will be back on the silver screen in the upcoming film ‘Maya’ in the titular role. The trailer of the film was unveiled on Thursday and the beautiful actress of the 1990s is seen in a new avatar.

The trailer shows Manisha’s character Maya Devi as a lonely woman who hasn’t stepped out of her house for 20 years. Two teenage girls – Anna and Ira, are intrigued by her and the duo decide to write letters to Maya, posing as her old lover, to bring some “spice” into her life. Maya begins to believe in the imaginary lover and leaves the town to meet the man. Ridden by guilt for destroying Maya’s life, Anna and Ira have a huge argument. Anna and Ira decide to search for Maya and go to Delhi, start a social media campaign and print leaflets. The two girls undertake the journey to “find friendship, love and life.”

Manisha has gone de-glam for the character with her face covered in wrinkles. She is almost unrecognisable in the first glance. The 46-year-old actress who battled cancer about five years ago, is cured of the disease now, and is once again taking up film projects. She will also be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt in the role of the actor’s mother, late actress Nargis.

Meanwhile, ‘Maya’ has been directed by Sunaina Bhatnagar and marks the debut of Pakistani VJ Madiha Imam. The movie is slated to hit screens on June 2.
