Mary Kom is my hardest film so far, Priyanka Chopra

After creating ripples with the first look poster and teaser, the trailer of Priyanka Chopra starrer, sports biopic ‘Mary Kom’ is out. From the two and a half minute trailer it is clear that it has all the ingredients of an entertaining sports film.  The trailer was edited by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is also the producer while Omung Kumar has directed the film.

The formal launch event of the trailer was held on 23rd July. Priyanka described ‘Mary Kom’ as her hardest film till date. She said, “This is my hardest film so far. Mary was the inspiration herself for me for the film…We worked for 18 hours in cold, rains, and in very tough conditions. It was team effort and I am happy that Mary was overwhelmed and cried after watching the film.”

The project has received support from Mary herself. Priyanka Chopra had visited the five time amateur world champion in her hometown of Imphal, Manipur to learn about the nuances of her life. She also spent time with her family who also gladly welcomed the Bollywood star. On that occasion, Mary Kom had said,  "When she came to Manipur, she knew about boxing so I gave her tips as a mother and a wife, how I went about managing my home and profession, how I live with my family — basically she got to know aspects about my family life."

Priyanka Chopra also had to go through regular training to achieve the fitness and agility of a boxer. A crew member has described an incident where Priyanka actually got hurt. He said, "Priyanka was filming a boxing scene with an actor from the North-East. She fell on the floor due to the impact. She got the shot spot on, so director Omung Kumar decided to retain it. The cut mark that you will eventually see on screen under her eye is real but we did touch it up with makeup to make it look deeper."  To make the boxing scenes look authentic, Rob Miller, the sports director of films like ‘Chak De India’ and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was brought in.

After the release of her trailer, there has been some criticism about Priyanka Chopra not looking like a girl from Manipur. But given her acting abilities, fans are hoping that she will be able to properly bring out the attitude and personality of the Olympic medal winning boxer.
