‘Mary Kom’ designer Isha Mantry dies due to drug overdose

27-year-old Isha Mantry, who was a fashion designer by profession, passes away in Goa due to drug overdose at an Electronic Dance Music festival at Candolim beach in Goa on late Monday. The Mumbai based designer designed costume for ‘Mary Kom’. She went to Goa to attend the music festival and collapsed on the dance floor. She subsequently died at a local hospital in Goa.

Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar said that the deceased was a Mumbai resident, and informed that the police are investing the matter. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem. Isha worked in movies like 'Dangerous Ishq', 'Hate Story 2' and 'Ankur Arora Murder Case'. 

"The girl was in delirium and had to be lifted out of the venue and taken to a local hospital where she died," Kawthankar said at the press conference. "We suspect this is a case of drug overdose," he added.

Police sources said that the deceased Isha Mantry had arrived in Goa to attend the EDM fest along with her friends. At the venue, Isha felt uneasy and was shifted to a local hospital where she was declared dead.

"We have registered a case of unnatural death. Investigations are on," Inspector Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of the Calangute police station, said.

Incidentally, Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg had Saturday claimed that there were anti-narcotics department officials present at the venues of both major music festivals, held together and that there was no sign of drug use or sale at both events.

Bollywood director Pooja Bhatt and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt had expressed grief over Mantry's death.

"Isha Mantry I can't believe you have left us so early. You with the dancing eyes & shy smile! Why my love? WHY?," she tweeted on Wednesday.

"What appalls me is the damn music did not stop at EDM even after Isha's body was carried off the floor. Are we that blasé? That brain dead?," she added.

She also advised her followers on Twitter to leave the chemicals behind.

"Stick to alcohol if you must guys! Smoke a damn joint! But for God's sake, leave the chemicals BEHIND. Life is too damn precious," she tweeted.

Mahesh Bhatt also mourned the designer's death.

"Amusing yourself to death! Do u know that when Isha Mantri our designer dropped to the dance floor and died, the music did not stop? Tragic!," he tweeted.
