'Man of Steel' record breaking collection at box office

The new superman film “Man of steel” surpassed all collection records in June, to have come up as the highest grosser at the box office. Both in international market and in domestic market, this superman reboot has been the king at box office.

Enjoying a leap from Father’s Day, the movie opened up with $196.7 mn global box office business at the weekend. In the US, the movie had the highest collection for any June released movie and surged to $125.1 mn. The movie had the top debut for the studio ever in United Arab Emirates and Malaysia and did good business in South Korea and Mexico. The businesses for other countries have shown a positive response with UK ($17.1mn), South Korea ($9.9mn) and Mexico ($9.8mn). The movie will be screened next week in another 26 countries and it is expected that a positive review will benefit the collection in those countries as well.  France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia and China are the few countries in the list of 26 countries which will get to watch this Superman movie in the coming weekend.

Going by the trend, Warners estimated that “Man of Steel” would open to $113.1 million from Friday to Sunday and $125.1 million including the $12 million gained from Thursday night special Walmart screenings. But the real figures took a flight upon Sunday and prompted Warners to revise those numbers upward to $116.7 million and $128.7 million, respectively.

In India, “Man of Steel” dominated domestic movies "Fukrey" and "Ankur Arora Murder Case". Both these Bollywood movies saw low opening. Audiences had a choice between one Hollywood action and 2 Bollywood movies. Seemingly they opted for Hollywood. The movie saw 60-70 percent occupancy in theaters. “Man of Steel” collected 4.50 – 4.75 crores on the opening day in Indian theaters. Over the weekend the movie has earned 21 crores. The movie was released in 800 screens all over India. The movie was also dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

"The movie is a perfect blend of a superhero who reaches not only the fanboy audience but the family audience as well, with great results from both," said Warners president of domestic distribution DanFellman.

The movie is directed by Zack Synder and produced by Christopher Nolan.  The movie has been made under the banner of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Henry Cavill plays the lead. The other lead characters are Russell Crowe as Superman’s father, Amy Adams, Christopher Meloni, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner and Diana Lane as adoptive parents. Villain Zod is played by Michael Shannon.
