Mamta Kulkarni, husband Vicky Goswami declared abounding in drug case

Thane Sessions court has declared Bollywood sex symbol Mamta Kulkarni and her husband Vicky Goswami absconding in 2000 crore ephedrine drug haul. They are declared as 'Proclaimed Offenders' in Ephedrine Case, by Thane Sessions Court in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Bharat Shelkhe, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thane, earlier told a leading daily: “We have a lot of evidence against Mamta Kulkarni. The other accused have not only confessed to the crime but have also revealed Kulkarni’s part in the case. We also found that she was to be made the director of the company’s branch in Solapur and that she was present in almost all the meetings”.

In March this year, a sessions court in Thane issued non-bailable warrants against former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni and her partner alleged international drug-lord Vijaygiri aka Vicky Goswami in connection with the Rs 2,000 crore drug haul case of April 2016.

“We have a lot of evidence against Mamta Kulkarni. The other accused have not only confessed to the crime but have also revealed Kulkarni’s part in the case. We also found that she was to be made the director of the company’s branch in Solapur and that she was present in almost all the meetings,” ACP Bharat Shelkhe, Thane crime branch, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Both the accused have been declared absconding since their names cropped up in the drug racket case. Thane police have included her name in the FIR and also charge sheet.

In April last year, the Thane police raided a factory of Avon Pharma Life Sciences Private Limited in Solapur and confiscated 18,627 kg of ephedrine worth over Rs 2,000 crore, in one of the largest drug hauls in the country.

According to the police, ephedrine was being diverted from Avon Life sciences to a Kenya-based drug cartel headed by Goswami where it was used to make party-drug Methamphetamine. Till now, 14 people have been arrested in the case, while five accused are abroad.

Kulkarni’s partner Vicky Goswami is in US custody after being extradited from Kenya in January.
