Malayalam director Rajesh Pillai dies at 41 in Kochi


Noted Malayalam director Rajesh Pillai passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Saturday. He was 41. Rajesh was undergoing treatment at PVS Memorial hospital here for non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

Pillai started his career and has made four movies including the path breaking new generation film ‘Traffic’

"He passed away around 11.40 am at PVS Hospital," the source close to the director told IANS.

He was hospitalised several times in the last few months.

"He was on life support since yesterday. He had been suffering from liver cirrhosis, and was due for a liver transplant, which he had postponed to complete his latest film Vettah, which released in cinemas on Friday," the source added.

During the final sound mixing of Manju Warrier and Kunjacko Bobban starrer ‘Vettah’, Pillai contracted pneumonia and his condition worsened. He lost his life a day after the release of ‘Vettah’.

On hearing the news of his death, several actors who worked in his movies rushed to the hospital.
