Malayalam actress' assault: HC rejects Dileep’s bail plea, co-star under scanner

No relief for Malayalam actor Dileep. On Monday, the Kerala High Court has dismissed the bail plea of the actor, stating that the allegations against the noted Malayalam actor is too grave and the evidence produced by the prosecution claims the actor’s involvement in the abduction and molestation of the actress.

Dismissing the actor's bail application, Justice Sunil Thomas said that the investigation is at a crucial stage.

"The case is unique, considering the seriousness, meticulous planning, cruel nature of execution and being a crime executed to wreak vengeance on a woman by engaging criminals, to sexually abuse her. Courts have to be circumspect in granting bail in such cases", the court said.

Another reason cited for the dismissing the bail is that some important evidences like the mobile phone used to record the sexual assault and the memory card in which video was stored still not recovered.

The court fears if released any accused might pamper the evidence. "The petitioner (Dileep) is also involved in distribution and production of films and is also an owner of a theatre.

Definitely he must be wielding considerable command on the industry," the court said.

"Prima facie there are materials to suspect the involvement of the actor in the crime," the judge said.

The investigation took a new turn when a Malayalam actress and Dileep’s female co-star came under police scanner. During investigation, police found a huge amount of money was transfer into the bank account of the female actress.

“The police are probing the huge amounts of money deposited in the bank account of the young actress, who is said to have friendly relations with Dileep. The actress has acted with Dileep in two movies,” says a source.

Arrested on July 10, Dileep was send to 14-days judicial custody. He is one of the master minds of the Malayalam actress’s molestation and abduction. He is currently lodged in a jail in his home town Aluva.
