Mala Sinha, Lata Mangeshkar remember Nanda

Veteran actress Mala Sinha, contemporary and a very good friend of late Nanda remembered her as a "khushnuma, zindadil" (cheerful and happy-go-lucky) who is known for her radiant smile. Mala Sinha said wherever she went, she spread happiness. Mala Sinha is shocked with the sudden demise of Nanda who is so close to her, Nanda died at her Andheri residence this morning following a massive heart attack at the age of 75.

Yesteryears actor Mala Sinha recalls the days when both of them acted in the movie ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ (1959) together. "We always applauded each other's shots. If I did well, she would always come to me and praise my performance. I would always appreciate her work as well. Nanda was always cooperative on sets and we shared a great working relationship."

Sinha said Nanda was more than a contemporary or friend. "She was like my younger sister. I am shocked by her death. She was younger than me… I simply cannot believe that she is no more."

Noted playback singer Lata Mangeshkar also remembered the actress and expressed her grief on twitter.

Lata Mangeshkar said, she remembered Nanda as Baby Nanda and revealed that she worked with Nanda in the film ‘Mandir’ when they were both child artistes.

Lata Mangeshkar worked as a child artist in Nanda’s father Vinayak Damodar Karnataki’s company.

Lata Mangeshkar added that she shared a close friendship with Nanda and her sister Meena. Lata Mangeshkar also recalled that she landed voice for the actress in her debut film ‘Tufaan’.

Lata Mangeshkar tweeted, “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki abhinetri Nanda jise hum baby nanda kehete the wo ab humare bich nahi rahi,ye sunke mujhe bohot dukh Nanda jab 4/5 saal ki thi tab usne mandir is film me mere chote bhai ki bhumika nibhaayi thi,main Nanda ke pitaji master Vinayak ji ki company me as child actress 1943 se kaam karti thi,meri Nanda aur uski badi behen Meena ke saath badi dosti thi.Nanda ki peheli film Tufaan aur diya thi tab se maine Nanda ke liye playback shuru kiya,bohot acchi insaan thi.Bhagwan uski aatma ko shaanti de.
