Madhuri, Priyanka, Aamir, Big B at Dilip Kumar's book launch

Last Monday evening saw the official launch of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar’s autobiography, ‘The Substance And The Shadow’. The event, held at the Grand Hyatt, Santa Cruz, Mumbai, was attended by a who’s who of Bollywood. The actor himself was present along with icons and stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Dharmendra, Jeetendra and many more. Filmmaker Karan Johar was the host of the event. Originally, India’s nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar was slated to light the inaugural lamp and open the event by singing. Unfortunately, the singer could not make it to the event due to ill health and the organizers had to look for a replacement. The replacement came in the form of none other than iconic diva Madhuri Dixit. She was accompanied to the event by her husband Dr. Sriram Madhav Nene.

Looking gorgeous in a red and gold saree paired with a golden blouse, Madhuri was at her graceful best. She was joined on the stage by Priyanka Chopra and veteran actress Vyjantimala and lighted the inaugural lamp to open the event.  Commenting on the occasion, Madhuri said, “He is a legendary actor and a book on him is something I am looking forward to. He has been an inspiration not only to actors but to everyone. As an actor I would like to know how he approached his roles and what he went through when he played the roles.”  Madhuri is back again in the limelight after a hiatus of few years. She recently appeared in two films, ‘Dedh Ishqiya,’ and ‘Gulaab Gang’. She is also appearing as a judge on the popular dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’.

After the inauguration by Madhuri, several other stars also actively participated in the event. Aamir Khan recited a poem specially penned for the occasion by Prasoon Joshi. He later said, "We all were eagerly waiting for this big day. I am a huge fan of Yusuf sahab and I was waiting to read his book and his experiences." Personalities like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra came on stage and shared their experiences about the thespian. The book has been penned by Dilip Kumar’s friend and author Udaya Tara Nayar. Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu has also played an active role in the putting together of the book. She told the reporters, "Please pray that the dedication we have written the book, it is received by the readers in the same way. Every chapter in the book is important and you all will read something that you have not read before about him."
