Living with Shahid was a nightmare, says Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor are sharing screen space for the first time for Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Rangoon’ and the actress shared her experince with the ‘Haider’ actor in remote area of Arunachal Pradesh.
During a recent chat with the firebrand, the actress told, "We were shooting in a remote location where a little makeshift cottage was erected. Shahid and I were sharing the cottages with our respective teams. Every morning, I would wake up to this mad hip-hop music. And he would exercise listening to crazy trance and techno songs blasting from the speakers. I was fed up and wanted to shift out. Sharing the cottage with Shahid was a nightmare," she says with a laugh.
Since Kangana hails from hills, shooting in a hostile terrain was not difficult for the actress. "Initially, it was a bit taxing because I was suddenly taken from an urban location to an extremely remote location with no network. But, gradually, it became a lot easier since I am a mountain girl. But Shahid would often freak out," she adds.
Working in ‘Rangoon’ was a life-changing experience for her. "This is probably the best script that I have ever heard. The film revolves around my character, Julia, and it [playing it] was demanding. But, it is a role that comes to an actor once in their lifetime."
Directed by National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj, 'Rangoon' starring Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut, is set against the backdrop of World War II.
Shahid plays a soldier in the film, while Saif plays a filmmaker and mentor to a film star named Julia, played by Kangana.
During the period between 1939-1945, when Britain and its allies were fighting against Japanese invasion, India was also fighting for her independence, and the wave of Independence Movement was high.
Kangana’s character Julia is modelled on ‘Hunterwali’ Fearless Nadia. The ‘Toofan Ki Beti’ enters the frame riding on a horse with a whip in her hand. Saif is a film producer and her partner. Julia is sent to Burma (present day Mayanmar), where Shahid, who plays Nawab Malik, is assigned to give her protection. The duo initially doesn’t take a liking to each other, but eventually fall in love.
