Lara Dutta to play Paro and Soha may essay Chandramukhi’s role

Devdas always seems to have takers and after two films on the subject, another one is in the making. However this one is supposed to be different and will be Devdas based in a modern setting. Sudhir Mishra will be directing this Pritish Nandy Communications film and it has been titled Aur Devdas. Yesteryear actresses Suchitra Sen and Aishwarya Rai have already essayed the role of the sweet and innocent Paro. Earlier there were talks of Rani Mukherjee being interested in playing Paro , however that didn’t wok out, but it seems Rani’s loss is Lara Dutta’s gain. Lara is all set to play the modern Paro.
Lara Dutta is extremely excited to work with Sudhir Mishra and she says “I’m very excited. I’ve wanted to work with Sudhir Mishra for a long time and now we’ve the perfect script.” Lara Dutta seems to be on a role as far as work is concerned. She recently did a big banner Yash Raj film and she has recently received extremely good reviews for her look and performance in Partner. In fact actor Salman Khan too is extremely impressed with Lara’s performance and has recommended her for his home production film. Unfortunately though Lara’s personal life is the opposite as she recently split from boyfriend Kelly Dorjee whom she was seeing for the last eight years. Meanwhile the link ups with co-stars like Abhishek, Bobby etc continue but they do not seem to faze the lady at all. Lara wants to do quality work now and has proved that she is ready for the challenge by taking on the role of Paro.

However Devdas is no doubt incomplete without its Chandramukhi. Actress Esha Deol was approached for the role of the modern Chandramukhi, however sources claim that although Esha was extremely keen to do the role, she was unable to take it on as she did not have the available dates. Talks are on with actress Soha Ali Khan and she may essay the character of Chadramukhi in Aur Devdas. Meanwhile Sudhir Mishra is busy working on the script as he wants to start filming in September. However Sudhir claims Aur Devdas is not going to be made as a classic; he says “My Paro and Chandramukhi aren’t going to be portrayed in the classic mould. Chandramukhi in my Devdas will not be a dancer but she will be an investment banker and Paro evolves into a politician. I’m turning Devdas into a gritty political drama.” Well it will surely be interesting to watch this new take on the film, but one wonders if there can ever be a Devdas character in today’s times.
