Kunal Khemu injured in attack by irate mob in Lucknow

Bollywood actor Kunal Khemu was injured when an angry mob pelted stones at the actor and the crew who were shooting for a romantic single in Lucknow. The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday, June 11, when the unit was shooting at the historical 'Bada Imambara' in old Lucknow.

Opposing the shoot, a group of irate locals went on a rampage and vandalised the set and vanity vans. "Kunal was filming a music video at the tourist destination with beauty pageant winner Vartika Singh. A group of 100-150 people descended on the set and started attacking the crew. The shoot was immediately stopped and the police had to be called in. However, by the time the cops arrived, many unit folks had been injured. Kunal sustained cuts and bruises on his arms. It was unexpected and shocking to say the least," a report in mid-day quoted a source.

It is alleged that the shooting was going on without permission, but the producer of the music video Nikhil Dwivedi has denied the allegations saying they had applied for permission for the shoot.

Titled ‘Saavere’, Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has lent his vocals while female vocalist Anupama Raag has also composed the music and penned the lyrics of the song. Apparently, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was on his way to the set, but returned to his hotel after being informed about the incident by a crew member.

There were about three to four police constables on set, but they were no match for 100-150 strong angry protesters. The situation was brought under control after the police arrived and the shooting resumed under extra security cover.

"We have no clue why the mob marched into our set and got so violent. The reasons are best known to them. We have lodged a complaint, nevertheless, and asked the local authorities for more police deployment till we wrap up our shoot," a source working on the project said.
