‘Ki and Ka’ mints in Rs 22.44 crore on the second day


Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Ki and Ka’ soars high up on the second day. The film opened to a good response on Friday and made a total collection of 10.43 crore on the first day, in the domestic level it earned Rs 7.30 crore and summing the global and domestic collection, ‘Ki and Ka’ minted in Rs 10.43 on day one.

Based on gender issue, R Balki’s ‘Ki and Ka’ received good response from the critics. It collected Rs 22.44 crore in the second day. On the opening day, the film registered opening day occupancy of 40-50. Made on a budget of 30 crore, ‘Ki and Ka’ is expected to score high at the box-office.

The movie was released in approximately 1,600 screens across the country and recorded the third highest opening day collections after Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Airlift’ at Rs 12.35 crores and adult comedy ‘Kyaa Kool Hain Hum’ at Rs 8.15 crores. It took over over Sunny Deol’s ‘Ghayal Once Again’ which was pegged at Rs 7.20 crores.   

The movie also became the biggest opener ever for director R. Balki whose previous film ‘Shamitabh’ could gross only half the amount Rs 3.50 crores, ‘Paa’ collected Rs 2.15 crores, while the lifetime collection of ‘Cheeni Kum’ stood at Rs 17.30 crores.

The best collections came from metropolitan cities Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore and it was expected considering the genre and target audience of the movie.  

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “Like some metro-centric films released recently, #KiAndKa too picked up towards evening shows on Fri at plexes of urban centres... #KiAndKa Fri ? 7.30 cr. India biz... Sat + Sun biz is crucial to deliver a healthy weekend total.”

‘Ki & Ka’ is an unconventional film where the husband plays the homemaker and the wife is the chief breadwinner. The film speaks about gender equality and attempts to break stereotypes.

Besides Kareena and Arjun, the film also casts Swaroop Sampat and Rajit Kapur, while Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan make cameo appearances.
