'Khiladi 786' collections at the box-office drops

Action films have been working wonders at the box-office recently and therefore the one who started his career with action films and earned the tag “Khiladi” could not have been far behind. This year Akshay Kumar did two action flicks. One was “Rowdy Rathode” that starred Sonakshi Sinha and the other was “Khiladi 786”. Asin stars in the latter as the female lead and Mithun and Himesh too have significant roles in this film.

“Khiladi 786” released on the 7th of December and it marked Akshay’s re-entry into the Khiladi series. However, a bad script has dampened his chances to make it big with this film. The critics vehemently criticized this film from its day of release.

The film has been co-produced by Akshay and Himesh and has been directed by Ashish R Mohan. The film recovered much of its revenue from its music rights, overseas rights, satellite rights, video rights and Indian theatrical rights.

Trade analysts had predicted that the film would garner around 50-52 crores previously, and this film has done rightly so. Taran Adarsh, trade analyst tweeted ““#Khiladi786 day-wise: Fri 10.40 cr, Sat 11 cr, Sun 12.75 cr, Mon 5.50 cr, Tue 4.90 cr, Wed 4.10 cr, Thu 3.90 cr. Total: 52.55 cr net.”

However, what can be noted from the tweet is that there has been a sharp decline in the film’s collections. The weekend collections are way higher than the weekday collections and to top it all, it has only been declining. Thus it can be safely said that the collections will only drop in the coming days and with “Dabangg 2” releasing on the 21st of December the film stands no chance to make it big. Also with “Rowdy Rathode” joining the 100-crore club, the collections of this movie seem very meager.

However, the filmmaker’s seem very happy with the collections. Creative producer of this film, Rakesh Upadhyay said, “'Khiladi 786' has garnered Rs 50 crore in the first week itself and is still counting. Though the weekend proved a high point, the real challenge for a film is to make the counter ring on Mondays and Tuesdays. And Khiladi 786 thanks to strong word of mouth has remained super steady throughout the week and the comedy has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in the first seven days.” They are confident of amassing even more in the next 7 days’ time as there are no big releases coming up until December 21st.
