Kaun Banega Crorepati: Amitabh Bachchan apologizes for ‘Shivaji’ controversy

Megastar and host Amitabh Bachchan has issued an apology for ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ controversy on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. The hullaballoo also started when the option of a question only had ‘Shivaji’ and not ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ came under fire after Big B referred great Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj only Shivaji and glorifies Mughal emperor Aurangzeb by addressing him as ‘samrat’.

On Thursday’s episode, Amitabh Bachchan asked a question to a constant based on history. The question was 'Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?' and the options were Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Shivaji.

Netizens are deeply hurt by the reference and as it glorifies Aurangzeb and hastag.   '#Boycott_KBC_SonyTV' started trending on social media.

After the hullabaloo over the matter, Sony Entertainment channel has issued an apology for the same through their official Twitter handle, which reads, "There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday’s KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11 (sic)."

Siddhartha Basu also apologized for the mistake and he tweeted a new picture from the episode, with corrections made to the name on screen. “No insult or disrespect whatsoever was intended to the memory of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a question on KBC 11. This season there have been a number of questions which have all used his name with the full title. Apologies for the inadvertent omission of title in the choice,” he wrote.

Amitabh retweeted him and wrote, “No disrespect meant at all .. apologies if it has hurt sentiments.” He even added a folded hands emoji.
