Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan's 'Phantom' postponed

Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan have disappointed fans for the second time now. People have been eagerly waiting for their upcoming film ‘Phantom’. It is a Kabir Khan directorial, and is expected to be released since quite long. According to latest reports, the release dates have been delayed again.

Initially, the film was scheduled to hit the screens on 2nd October last year. This date was unsuitable since many other filmmakers had booked it for major film releases. So, ‘Phantom’ was postponed to April 2015. But director Kabir Khan found some similarity between his film and a recently released flick. Kabir saw that ‘Phantom’ was quite similar to Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Baby’ that was released on 23rd January this year. Therefore, now the film has been postponed to 28th August 2015.

‘Phantom’ has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is based on counter- terrorism. It showcases Mumbai, post 26/11 attacks and also shows global terrorism. Katrina and Saif don the role of secret agents. ‘Baby’ is also a thriller, with Akshay Kumar playing a security agent in Turkey. This one too features secret agents whose aim is to protect India from terrorism. The name of this secret operation is ‘Baby’, with Danny Denzongpa as the leader.

Looking at the plot of both the films, one can find certain similarities. The roles of the female leads are almost the same. Actress Taapsee Pannu plays an officer Priya Suryavanshi. She works in secret with Akshay Kumar. They have to pretend to be husband and wife when they travel to Nepal for counter-terrorism operation.

In ‘Phantom’, such a role is played by Katrina as she is a secret agent too. Both the movies feature the lead male and female actors carrying out operations meant to fight terrorism. ‘Baby’ shows Akshay Kumar as Ajay Rajput, who undertakes a dangerous mission to protect his country. For this purpose, he travels to Istanbul, Abu Dhabi and Nepal. Saif Ali Khan, in his film, is a man called Daniyal. He too travels to various places- Europe, West Asia and America to fight terrorism, particularly the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.

‘Phantom’ is facing some other problems too apart from postponement of its release. The shooting began in Beirut, Lebanon in October 2013. The cast and crew had been given special protection as the country was suffering political turmoil. But while shooting, two local artists were hit by a car and were injured. The team has filmed at other locations such as Turkey, Gulmarg and Malerkotla.
