Karnataka Govt settles medical bills of Manna Dey

Karnataka Government decided to settle the medical bills of legendary singer Manna Dey who passed away on 24th October in a hospital in Bangalore.

Manna Dey was 94. For past six months before his death he was admitted many times to a city hospital in Bangalore. He died due to multi organ failure after a prolonged illness. He was admitted at the privately-run Narayana Hospital at the outskirts of the city.

The chief minister announced at a function that the medical bills of Rs. 25 lakhs of Manna Dey would be settled by the state government as Manna Dey was staying in Karnataka during his last years. Also since, Manna Dey has also sung a number of songs for the Kannada movie, the state government wanted to pay a tribute.

Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah was at an award function on the occasion of the state’s 58th formation day (Rajyothsava) celebrations when he made the announcement. He said, “This is not just a gesture of our government, but a mark of respect to the great singer who had also sung a few songs for Kannada films.”

He further added, “As Kannadigas are known for gratitude, we pay our tributes to Dey who chose to be a resident of Bangalore in his old age.”

In order to pay a tribute to Manna Dey, the state government has also decided to hold a musical night ‘Naada Namana’.

The entire Bollywood mourned the death of Manna Dey. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter, “Manna Dey, stalwart of the music world, passes away. Flooded with memories and his songs. In particular his rendition of Madhushala. RIP... Prayers and condolences to loved ones and family! Strange how we connect events of our life with his songs! At work but shall keep a minutes silence, in Manna Dey's memory on set before we start…”

Singer Kailash Kher said, “Manna Dey, the legend is no more, and his contribution to music and films is unmatchable, RIP. Transformed from physical to divine, prayers.”

Actress Shabana Azmi wrote, “Manna Dey had a unique voice. He will live on through his songs Ai Meri Zohra Jabeen/ dil ka haal suney dilwala/ poocho na kaise maine RIP.”

Singer Shreya Ghosal wrote, “Zindagi kaisi hai paheli, Puchho na kaise, ek chatur naar, aao twist karein, aaja sanam madhur.. Such versatility and command over all genres. Rest in peace Manna Dey saab.. You and your voice are immortal.. Your songs will continue to inspire millions forever..”
