Actor Karan Oberoi granted bail in rape case

After a month long stay in jail, actor Karan Oberoi finally granted bail by Bombay High Court. He was accused to raping and blackmailing a woman. Justice Revati Mohite Dere on Friday granted Oberoi cash bail of Rs 50,000. The woman attacked herself but orchestrated she is being attacked.

"It is pertinent to note that to ensure that the applicant (Oberoi) does not get bail, the complainant (woman) orchestrated an attack on herself," Justice Dere said while granting bail to Oberoi.

On May 6th, the TV actor was arrested by Mumbai police for raping and blackmailing a woman in Mumbai. She is an astrologer by profession. 

Karan purportedly raped the woman on the pretext of marrying her, the police informed. The duo met via a dating app in October 2016. Soon they became friends and started to meet at his Andheri residence. One day, when the female astrologer went to meet him at his house, he gave her coconut water to drink and soon she started feeling dizzy. Karan not only raped her but also recorded the act to blackmail her.   

"Karan Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act but also demanded money from her threatening to release the video if she did not pay up," police official said quoting the FIR that was registered at Oshiwara Police Station.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the actor-model was arrested on Sunday and he was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion), Oshiwara police station's senior inspector Shailesh Pasalwad said.

Karan Oberoi started his TV journey with Mahesh Bhatt's Swabhimaan. He was also a member of a Hindi boy band 'A Band of Boys', which was formed in 2001 and appeared in several advertising campaigns of cars, bikes and apparels.
