Karan Johar’s ‘Shhuddhi’ being shelved

Filmmaker Karan Johar’s production ‘Shhuddhi’ is once again making news. But this time it is not about a change in the casting. The film which was slated to release next year has not taken off yet and might be shelved after all.

For the past three years the film has been witnessing a change in its lead cast. It was initially much talked about as it was to bring back the pair of Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor after a long gap. However, Hrithik walked out of the project followed by Kareena.

Then it was the turn of Ranveer Singh and then Salman Khan. During Salman’s exit, he himself announced a few months ago that the movie will begin shooting with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the leads.

However, according to a report in The Times of India, the project is not taking off due to reasons best known to the makers. ‘Shhuddhi’ was to be directed by Karan Malhotra and was set for a Diwali release in 2016.

During a press meet for ‘Baahubali’ when Karan was asked about the project, he jokingly remarked, “Shhuddhi has already completed three years in the making. It has crossed the making of ‘Baahubali’ without being made. It's a new kind of history. I will discuss ‘Shhuddhi’ when I have something to show."

However, there has not been any official announcement yet.

Meanwhile, Salman who recently visited the sets of dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded’ to promote his upcoming production ‘Hero’, asked Karan to take him back in ‘Shhudhi’, albeit in a lighter vein. Karan is one of the judges of the dance show.
