Kapil Dev appears on 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'

Recently Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag made appearances on ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ and proved that they can be entertaining outside the field as well. After them another cricketing legend made his presence felt on the sets of the show this Sunday. This week the host Kapil Sharma welcomed his namesake and the world cup winning former captain of the Indian team, Kapil Dev. For the host it was a special thing to have Kapil Dev on the show as he revealed during the episode that his late father was a big fan of Dev and he named his son after him.

To the surprise of everyone, it was not comedian Kapil who made people laugh the most that evening. It was the cricketer Kapil known for his intensity and fighting spirit who stole the show.  His wife Romi Dev and daughter Kamya accompanied him but chose to sit in the audience to see Kapil in action. The audience was pleasantly surprised to discover that Kapil Dev has a really strong funny side. Coming out of his serious image, he joked, recalled funny incidents during his illustrious career and even showcased his mimicry skills, creating some memorable moments.

He told his experiences during a match in Pakistan where he was accompanied by the late great actor Dev Anand and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He enacted a conversation between Vajpayee and Dev Anand and showed that he has some good mimicry skills. Not just the host but other stars of the show were equally excited to see the iconic cricket star. Daadi (played by Ali Asgar) could not hold herself back and danced before finally landing a ‘shagun ki pappi’ on Kapil. Kapil took things very sportingly and after being impressed he enacted the 'Ittu sa' punch with Daadi. During the course of the show, he bonded with another star of the show, the lovable Palak (played by Kiku sharda). Palak appeared dressed as a sportswoman and dedicated funny poetry to Kapil. Then they played cricket together and Kapil taught Palak about sportsman attitude.

Navjot Singh Sidhu who is one of the guest stars of the show revealed that very few people know about the great sense of humor that Kapil Dev has. He joined Kapil onstage and the duo shared stories from their cricketing days. He also shared the fact that he used to take his wife secretly with him during foreign tours because the cricket board had a tight budget.
