Kal Ho Naa Ho breaks Bollywood records in South Africa

The lure of heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan still seems strong in South Africa as his latest film, Kal Ho Naa Ho, has smashed Bollywood box office records in its opening weekend here...
...Kal Ho Naa Ho, which hit the theatres last Friday, earned the distinction of the highest opening weekend box office of any Bollywood film released on the South African circuit this year.

It also had the highest box office per print across the entire circuit of the country's largest cinema chain, Ster-Kinekor, in its opening weekend.

Commented Fiaz Mohamed, chief operating officer of Ster-Kinekor: Kal Ho Naa Ho illustrates our commitment to releasing quality movies on the Ster-Kinekor Bollywood circuit.

"We've had a good run lately with Baghban and now Kal Ho Naa Ho; and are excited about our first major release for the new year, Khakee, with Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, which will be shown exclusively on the Ster-Kinekor circuit."

Set in New York, Kal Ho Naa Ho is the story of three friends - Aman (Shah Rukh Khan), Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) and Naina (Preity Zinta) - as they embark on a journey that is set to make them rethink their attitude to life.

Kal Ho Naa Ho is being screened four times daily at cinemas in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, with evening shows filled to capacity as schools have ended their academic year and the traditional December holiday mood has set in.
