Kajol-Dhanush-starrer ‘VIP 2’ titled ‘Lalkar’ in Hindi


Actress Kajol’s Tamil comeback film ‘Velaiilla Pattadhari 2’, popular as ‘VIP 2’ with superstar Dhanush is ready to launch its trailer and audio on Sunday, June 25. A day ahead of the big launch, the makers have released a new poster and a motion poster of the film.

The motion poster has a very energetic background music as the images of stern looking Kajol and Dhanush plays out along with the film’s title and other details. The motion poster also carries a Hindi title for the film, ‘Lalkar’.

“Since the comedy drama features two powerhouse performers - Kajol and Dhanush, together for the first time on the big screen, the makers wanted to ensure the title registers across pan-India, especially the north belt, considered as one of the major revenue earning territories,” a statement by the makers read.

Director Soundarya Rajinikanth said, “Both the actors have a huge fan base in the North, so we thought of leveraging it thereby keeping a more relatable and easy name for the audience.”

‘VIP 2’ is the sequel of Dhanush’s 2014 hit ‘Velaiilla Pattadhari’, and the actor reprises his role of an engineering graduate. It marks the comeback of Kajol to Tamil cinema after nearly two decades. She had earlier worked in 1997 film ‘Minsara Kanavu’ which was dubbed in Hindi and released as ‘Sapney’. Dhanush too has made his Bollywood debut opposite Sonam Kapoor in 2013 film ‘Raanjhanaa’ and has also starred in ‘Shamitabh’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Akshara Haasan.

According to reports, Kajol has a quasi-negative role in the film, and plays a suave businesswoman with different shades to her character. The film also stars Amala Paul and Samuthirakani, who also reprise their roles from the 2014 film.

Danush has also written the story and dialogues for the film, and is producing it under his banner Wunderbar Films, while his sister-in-law Soundarya has written the screenplay, besides directing it.

‘VIP 2’ is set to release on July 28.
