Jayalalitha biopic: Kangana Ranaut replaces Vidya Balan, demands 24 crore

Kangana Ranaut has replaced Vidya Balan in Jayalalitha biopic titled ‘Thalaivi’. The biopic will be helmed by director AL Vijay and will be made in both Hindi and Tamil.

Produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh, the biopic is based on the life of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa.

She said, "I always wanted to work in regional films because when we go to Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh, we realise that people over there only watch films made by their local film industry. So there is a disconnect with that part of the country. I was waiting for a good opportunity to work over there and this film just came my way."

Kangana also pointed out that her life story is similar to that of J Jayalalithaa's. "I was working on my own biopic, but her (Jayalalithaa) story is very similar to my story. In fact, it is a bigger success story than mine. When I heard the narration of this film, I found many similarities between both the stories. So when I had the option to do a film based on her story or my story, I decided on the former," she added.

Thalaivi aka Jaya will be released in Tamil and Hindi, Kangana also added that she will be learning Tamil for the film. "Unless I fail miserably and they (the makers of the film) have to look for an option for my dubbing. But I will definitely learn the language," Kangana exclaimed.

Kangana is charging a hefty sum of Rs 24 crore as her remuneration.

At first Vidya Balan was approached to play the titular role but her excessive intuitiveness has made the makers to drop her and take a new actress.

As per recent reports, Vidya was asking too many questions about her role which irked the producer and he decided for a change.

A recent report by Bollywood Hungama sugggests the same as, “As Vidya became increasingly questioning about her role the producers got uncomfortable with her inquisitiveness. They probably had no answers at that point of time.”
