It’s a wrap-up: Aishwarya turns emotional on 'Sarbjit' set


Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda starrer biopic ‘Sarabjit’ has wrapped-up its final schedule held in Mumbai on Wednesday. The film will go into post-production and its team is all set to kick start the promotional campaign.

Director Omung Kumar made the announcement on Twitter by sharing an emotional wrap-up selfie. “#SARBJIT WRAPPED:) @Vanita_ok @SandeepSinghOne @RichaChadha_ #AishwaryaRai @RandeepHooda @DarshanKumaar 20thmay,” the ‘Mary Kom’ director posted along with the picture in which he is seen posing with Aishwarya, Richa Chadda and others. 

The 'Jazbaa' actress can be seen getting little emotional while posing for the selfie.

The movie was originally slated to finish shooting by March 15, but it got delayed as the team had faced issues with the authorities regarding permissions for shooting at various locations. During the Punjab schedule, the team faced problem in getting permission to shoot an important sequence at the Wagah Border. During the final schedule, shooting at Bhindi Bazaar in Mumbai had also been halted, according to a Pinkvilla report.

The biopic is based on Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh who inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan in 1990 where he was convicted and jailed for espionage and terrorism. He was incarcerated in Lahore Jail for 23 years before being killed by his inmates.  

The movie revolves around the determination and struggles of Sarabjit’s elder sister Dalbir Kaur who fought to procure the release of her younger brother.

Aishwarya essays the role of Dalbir Kaur in the film while Randeep plays her brother Sarabjit. Richa will be seen in the role of Sarabjit’s wife Sukhpreet. The movie also stars Darshan Kumaar of ‘Mary Kom’ fame in the role of Pakistani lawyer Awais Sheik who fought to get justice for Sarabjit.

The film is slated to hit the theatres on May 20.
