Irrfan Khan rejects Steven Spielberg’s film starring Scarlett Johansson

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has carved a niche for himself in Hollywood. He has been a part of two Oscar winning movies – ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2008 and ‘Life of Pi in 2012, besides starring in blockbusters like ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.

At a time when actors like Deepika Padukone, Dhanush, Priyanka Chopra are grabbing opportunities in the West, Irrfan has turned down Steven Spielberg’s latest starring Scarlett Johansson. The reason, he is just not excited about the role.

“I didn’t feel the character offered to me gave me much scope. So I said ‘No’; though Scarlett Johansson is an actor I would have loved to share screen space with,” the 48-year-old actor told NDTV in an interview.

Irrfan who has wrapped up the shooting of Ron Howard's ‘Inferno’ with Tom Hanks praised the ‘Angels & Demons’ actor saying, "Tom Hanks was an actor secure in his space. He has no air and is so talented."

However, ‘The Lunchbox’ actor had to refuse Ridley Scott’s ‘The Martian’ as he was busy with Soojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. Speaking about the sci-fi, Irrfan said, “I am disappointed that things didn’t work out with him (Scott). I wanted to work with him before as well in ‘Body of Lies’ (2008), but things just didn’t fall into place. For ‘The Martian’ as well, I met him and I loved the concept as well. But ‘Piku’s second half of the shoot was still pending and I couldn’t have left that.”

Irrfan was replaced by Chiwetel Ejiofor in the film which released in October last year.

Meanwhile, Irrfan has not signed any film as yet. He was last seen in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Talvar’ and played the part of narrator in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’. His Hollywood thriller ‘Inferno’ will be out in October this year.
