Irrfan Khan opts out of Bhansali’s ‘Gustakhiyan’ starring Priyanka Chopra

According to latest grapevine, Irrfan Khan has walked out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gustakhiyan’ starring Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. It is learnt that Irrfan opted out of the project citing date issue.

Shahrukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Salman Khan to Abhishek Bachchan was top contenders for the role but Irrfan grabbed the meaty project and now he backed off. Irrfan also went on record that he will be playing a Ludhianvi on the silver screen. Now after his exit, Abhishek Bachchan is considered for the role of the male lead opposite Priyanka Chopra.

When Irrfan was cast, he had excitingly said, “I am waiting to play Sahir. I don’t know whether I am the best choice for the role. But I do know that I am willing to invest my entire being into getting it right.”

The actor confesses that he is a huge fan of Sahir. “Before him, romantic songs were written in a particular way. Then this man came along and completely changed the idiom and style of romantic expression. He wrote, “Maine tumse hi nahin sabse mohabbat ki hai,” for a film called 'Didi.' Sahir wrote poetry that expressed the hope and aspirations of the generation that came after Independence. Now we’ve accepted the defeat of that hope. The biggest defeat is our acceptance of the foreign model of existence,” he says.

‘Gustakhiyan’ is based on the love story of lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and poetess Amrita Pritam.
