In Pics: Aamir Khan attends Geeta Phogat’s wedding in Haryana
As promised Aamir Khan attended the wedding of his wrestler Geeta Phota. The big fat wedding took place at in Balali vilage of Haryana. The entire ‘Dangal’ family graced the ocassion-Sakshi Tanwar, Sanya Malhotra (who plays Babita) and director Nitesh Tiwari. The celebrities arrived in the afternoon and they were welcomed by huge crowds of the village. They brought big boxes of dry fruits, sweets and gifts. Unfortunately, Fatima Sana Shaikh, who plays Geeta on screen missed the wedding as she fractured her leg.
Geeta Phogat tied the knot with fellow wrestler Pawan Kumar in a grand ceremony at Charkhi Dadri. As reported earlier, Aamir Khan was supposed to gift the the bride-to-be the wedding attire but he could not as it is a ritual that the wedding outfit should from the maternal uncle’s house.
One of Geeta's cousins got emotional and said there was a time Mahavir fought with everyone to make wrestlers out of his daughters. "The mentality of the village has changed after the girls went on to win medals. Mahavir's story is out there for the world to see with this movie."
Aamir Khan and the team also adressed the media. The ‘Dangal’ team spent two hours with the Phogats and looked into the details of the wedding.
The villagers thrilled to have Aamir Khan and his the team ‘Dangal’ among them. the wedding began around 6 pm and Geeta looked splendid in a pretty pink lehenga while the groom Pawan was dressed in red safa and sherwani.
Rajesh Jakhar, neice of Mahavir Phogat said, “There was a lot of protest when Phogat used to train his girls. But now the mentality has changed after Geeta and other girls won world championships. Mahavir has now gone to Bollywood. The entire nation can see him now. He trains 15-20 girls from the village.”
“A lot of Bollywood films are being made in Haryana. It is a special place,” Aamir added.
At the ceremony, Aamir Khan also mouthed a popular dialogue from the film ‘Dangal’, upcoming film, adressing the press, he said, “Mari choriya choro se kam hai ka”.
