I will have to undergo bone marrow transplant, Rishi Kapoor on cancer

For the last eight months, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor has been undergoing treatment for cancer in the US. His family stood like a pillar with him during his tough time. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle in an interview, Rishi said that his wife and two children, Ranbir and Riddhima helped him sail smoothly during his painful days.

Rishi Kapoor said, “Neetu has stood by me like a rock. Otherwise I am too difficult a person to handle as far as food and drink are concerned. My kids Ranbir and Ridhima have really shouldered my problems.”

Talking about his treatment, he added, “My eighth month of treatment started on May 1 in the US. But God has been kind! I am in remission, meaning now I am cancer-free. I will have to do a bone marrow transplant, which in all probability should take another two months minimum. Being in remission is a big thing and it’s all because of my family and my fans prayers and duas that have worked. I thank them all.”

He also said that God has taught him the importance of patience: “A person like me who has never had patience, this is God’s way to teach me patience. Getting well is a slow procedure. But it makes you grateful for the gift of life.”

When Rishi flew to the USA for medical treatment last year, he said, “Hello all! I am taking a short leave of absence from work to go to America for some medical treatment. I urge my well-wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. It’s been 45 years ‘plus’ of wear and tear at the movies. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon”.

Randhir Kapoor, who earlier denied commenting on Rishi Kapoor’s disease has accepted that his brother suffered from cancer and after his long treatment in New York he is almost cancer free and will be back to Mumbai soon.

"He is undergoing treatment, he is much better. He is almost cancer free. He will take some time to come back as he has to finish his course. He will be here in the next couple of months. Very soon," Randhir told PTI.

The Kapoor family has always refrained from commenting anything about Rishi Kapoor’s disease. Neetu Kapoor’s New Year’s post sparked the rumor that he is suffering from cancer.

"Happy 2019... No resolutions only wishes this year! Less pollution, traffic! Hope in future cancer is only a zodiac sign! Good health," she had shared on Instagram along with a picture with her family.

Filmmaker Rahul Rawail on Tuesday posted a picture of himself with actor Rishi Kapoor on his Facebook page and wrote: "Rishi Kapoor (Chintu) is cancer free."
