‘Housefull 3’ at Rs 53 cr becomes highest weekend opener of 2016


Akshay Kumar, Ritiesh Deskhmukh and Abhishek Bachchan starrer ‘Housefull 3’ has become the highest opening weekend grosser of 2016 by raking in Rs. 53.31 crore at the box office in three days. It overthrew Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ which pegged its opening weekend collection at Rs. 52.35 crore.

The film has also left behind Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Airlift’ and Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Baaghi’ at Rs 44.30 crore and 38.58 crore respectively.

Noted Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote about it on his Twitter handle today. “#Housefull3 has a ROCKING weekend… Crosses ? 53 cr… Emerges THE HIGHEST OPENING WEEKEND grosser of 2016… Hindi films. India biz,” he posted and added, “Highest OPENING WEEKEND biz of 2016: #Housefull3 ? 53.31 cr #Fan ? 52.35 cr #Airlift ? 44.30 cr  #Baaghi ? 38.58 cr Hindi films. India biz.”

‘Housefull 3’ opened to mixed reviews from critics on June 3, but on opening day itself it garnered as much as Rs 15.21 crore. It earned another Rs. 16.30 crore on day two, Saturday and brought in Rs. 21.80 crore on Sunday.

The movie written and directed by Sajid-Farhad is the third instalment of comedy franchise ‘Housefull’ produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Besides the three lead actors, the film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Lisa Haydon, Nargis Fakhri, Boman Irani, Chunkey Pandey and Jackie Shroff.
