'Happy New Year' collects 136.87 cr in five days

After months of heavy promotion, SRK starrer ‘Happy New Year’ finally hit the theatres on Friday, 24th October. The film revolves around six people who try to steal diamonds while posing as dancers participating in a competition. The critical review of the film has been from mixed to negative. Even a section of the fans have expressed their disappointment over the film. But despite the few negative reviews, the film has been doing extremely well and can turn out to be one of the biggest hits of recent times. The festive season of Diwali had ensured a great opening for the film but it will now be up to the film itself to continue its good run.

As per latest reports, the ‘Happy New Year’ has surpassed the lifetime collections of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Holiday’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’. So far, at the domestic box office, HNY has earned 123.86 crore.  The film entered the 100 crore club within three days, making it the quickest entry in the coveted club. The film also performed superbly at overseas markets. In Canada, the film collected 2.23 crore on its opening day. So far the film has set several box office records, apart from being the fastest entry to the ‘100 crore club’. Before the release SRK heavily promoted the film in the US and UK, and it is expected that the film will do good business there. Currently HNY holds records like,

§  Biggest opening of 2014 and also biggest opening of all time with Rs. 44. 97 earning on the first day.

§  It is also the biggest opening for SRK and Deepika Padukone pair. The previous record was held by their last film ‘Chennai Express’.

§  It is the biggest opener for Diwali.

§  It is the highest opening weekend grosser of 2014 and also of all time with 108 crore in 3 days.

Shahrukh Khan himself took to Twitter to thank fans for this tremendous response. The superstar tweeted, “Thank u world for the love. What an enormous welcome to HNY all over.I hope team HNY made you all smile a lot.” SRK will be travelling to various places now to promote the film post-release.
