Hema Malini returns home with Esha, son-in-law after surgery

Bollywood ‘dream girl’ and politician who was injured after her Mercedes rammed into another car leaving a child dead and others, including herself injured, has been discharged and has arrived in Mumbai.

The 66-year-old BJP MP from Mathura reached home on Saturday with daughter Esha and son-in-law Bharat Takhtani. She has promised financial assistance to the families of the victims who were travelling in the other car and were severely injured and also lost their five-year-old child in the accident.

Talking to reporters outside Hema's residence in Juhu, Esha said, "My mother will help the families of victims. She is doing this not because she is a neta (leader) but because she is a good human being as well."

“We all are in shock that something like this could happen. It could happen to anyone. So, she has very clearly told us that even if you are sitting on the backseat and going on the highway, wear your seat belt because she was not wearing her seat belt,” Esha added.

The ‘Dhoom’ actress also said that her mother was a bit exhausted, but will definitely talk to the media after she recovers. “She went through a surgery and has got stitches on her forehead, lip and nose, but she will be fine,” Esha added.

The accident occurred on Thursday night on National Highway 11 at the Lalsot bypass in Rajasthan’s Dausa district when the veteran actress was returning to Jaipur after visiting the Mehendipur Balaji temple.

The driver of Hema’s car Mahesh Chand Thakur, a resident of Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested under sections 304-A (Causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC). He was later produced in court and granted bail.
