Gurmeet Ram Rahim courts controversy again

Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has come under fire for dressing up as Lord Vishnu in a video. The All India Hindu Federation (AIHF) has filed a complaint against the self-styled godman for hurting religious sentiments of the Hindus.

The complaint comes days after comedian Kiku Sharda was arrested for mimicking the Dera chief in a television show. The followers of the Dera chief had filed an FIR against Kiku and seven others for spoofing their leader in the show 'Jashn-e-Ummed' aired on Zee TV on December 27 last year.

"A day before yesterday, I received a clip of Gurmeet Ram Rahim on my mobile through social media. In the video, he is seen dressing up as Lord Vishnu. That hurt my feelings," AIHF chief Nishant Sharma was quoted in a Mumbai Mirror report.

The complaint has been reportedly registered in the Zirakpur police station, Mohali and an investigation is underway. The right wing group leader has, however, alleged that police have not yet filed their complaint. "We called a meeting. Today we are going to meet the DGP and if the complaint is still not filed then we will approach the court. We have always worked to carry forward the ideology of ‘sanatan dharm’ and we will continue to do so," he added.

In the video, Ram Rahim can be seen descending from the sky as Lord Vishnu. This is not the first time that the self-proclaimed godman is embroiled in such a controversy. Earlier, he had dressed up as Guru Gobind Singh which hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. The incident had sparked outrage in Punjab.
