‘Gold’ trailer: Akshay Kumar determined to win gold for free India

Finally, the trailer of Akshay Kumar’s next outing ‘Gold’ was released and the trailer opens with a voice-over announcing the words, “Gold, British India”. The film is inspired from true events. The film is based on the national game of our country, hockey. From 1936 to 1948, India played hockey for British India and when India got independence, Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) an assistant manager determined to win Olympics gold for independent India. 

‘Gold’ is a story of a patriotic man who dreams to win gold for free India and finally his dream came true after 12 years but the path was not cakewalk. He had to cross many barriers to make India proud. Mouni Roy plays Akshay Kumar’s Bengali wife.

‘Gold’ directed by Reema Kagti stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh apart from Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy.

One of the film’s producers Ritesh Sidhwani told news agency PTI, "It is not a biopic. It is a completely fictional story but it is set against a real backdrop between 1933-48 India about what the country was, the sports... about hockey. It is not based on any character."

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani jointly produce ‘Gold’ under Excel Entertainment. The film is slated to release on August 15 (Independence Day).
