Gauri Khan debuts as fashion designer

After proving herself as a talented interior designer and producer as well, Gauri Khan is out to explore yet another dimension of her capabilities. Shah Rukh’s wife has now made her debut as a fashion designer. She presented her line of clothing at the ongoing Lakme Fahsion Week. Gauri presented her very first collection of clothing at the event. The third day of LFW saw an impressive collection of saris and resort wear by Gauri, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Satya Paul.

Known as ‘Tropical Wonder’, it featured a rich collection of mix and match. It comprised of fluid kaftans, sheer tunics, beautiful saris and versatile shift dresses. The satin georgette saris were paired with crossover halter blouses with a touch of sexiness. The beachwear was in cotton, chiffon, silk, tulle and organza. The bikini tops were in metallic tints. Gauri’s collection comprised of beach dresses, skirts and tops as well. Charming sequins work adorned the garments.

Looking at the collection that she presented, one could very well say that the garments are actually a must have. To suit the theme, she designed the prints to be botanical. They featured calligraphic scribbles and palm motifs along with ombré hand painted washes and palm burnouts. To add to the beauty, were free flowing garments and the exotic asymmetry in tunics. The sheer shirts sported were accompanied by mesh inserts. Designer turned Gauri Khan revealed the ethnic side of her as well in her collection. She presented breath-taking designs for cholis. The seductive dresses featured cross over halters, beautifully cut necklines, low back with tassels and also bikini styles.

Unfortunately, Shah Rukh couldn’t grace the event with his presence as he was busy in Crotia with the filming of ‘Fan’. However, King Khan didn’t forget to show what a proud husband he was. The actor tweeted- “SatyaPaul by Gauri. Xtremely proud of her achievement. Missed applauding her & it’s a shame I don’t wear dresses. Haha.” Several B-town celebs were present at the occasion to applaud Gauri - Karan Johar, Dabboo Ratnani, Malaika Arora Khan, Mandira Bedi, Tanisha Mukherjee, Adhuna Akhtar, Ali Fazal and Tamannaah Bhatia.

Gauri has been long known for her impeccable taste of fashion. She started off “as an artist in school with various sketches. I continued that as a hobby for many years, and I think that is where my designs come from”- says Gauri. Appearing in 2008 cover of Vogue, she was deemed ‘First Lady of Bollywood’.
