Gauahar Khan talks to the media after the slapgate incident

Model-actress and ‘Bigg Boss 7’ winner Gauahar Khan addresses to the media after the shocking slapgate incident. While speaking to the media, Gauahar raises issue about women’s dignity, safety, strict law and order, religion, cast, sex, culture. She said that she is hurt, shocked but not out.

The incident took place on Sunday at the Filmcity when host Gauahar was hosting the grand finale of ‘India’s Raw Star’. A 24-year-man by the name Akil Malik from the audience suddenly came up, approached towards Gauahar and slapped her in public attendance. He was immediately arrested and during police interrogation, he reasoned that he slapped her during the break of the show for wearing short skirt as Muslim women are not allowed to wear short outfits.

Speaking out about the incident, Gauahar Khan in a press conference shared her side of the story. She said, “Why doesn’t a loser like him have the fear of the law before he decides to attack a girl who is unarmed and unprepared and someone who is in a state to try and do her work to the best of her ability. This loser doesn’t represent my beautiful faith, which in itself means peace and submission. He apparently attacked me because I am an actress. He wanted to send out his warped message. I am using the same status to appeal all women to stand against such acts.

Also, despite the shock, I didn’t let the incident spoil the finale of the show and completed my shoot. I feel the pain of all women who go through such kind of attacks in the name of moral policing. I know this man does not represent the youth of India because the young boys who were outraged by his cowardly attack on me outnumbered the coward. I assure you all that I am hurt but not out. I am shocked but more determined. I felt injured but stronger than ever.”

Gauahar Khan also defended her religion. She also said that she doesn’t represent Islam. “This loser doesn’t represent my beautiful faith which in itself means peace and submission. He apparently attacked me because I am an actress. He wanted to send out his warped message. I am using the same status to appeal to all women to stand against such acts”, said the actress.

Sharing her thought deeply about the incident, Gauahar said, "I may have set an example to a few people as a woman with a mind of my own, but I have never promoted any kind of dress code. I wouldn't wear a party dress to a prayer meeting or anything revealing on a college campus. But if it's a social do or if I'm on a set, I can dress differently, can't I? Unless it harms anyone, one should adopt a live and let live attitude and not try to dictate terms."

She thanked all for supporting her in this hard time, "I thank all my fans...loved ones n imp voices of personalities tat hav supported me in dis traumatic time..May almighty bless us all".

Gauahar also put stress on proper education. "Education is important. Teachers should impress upon young boys to be gentle with women and not treat them as inanimate props. If something like this could happen to a celebrity, I shudder to think how unsafe women on the streets are."

The attacker was arrested soon after the incident, a police officer stated, "Malik told the actress that he was against her wearing short clothes before slapping her. He touched her inappropriately as well. Following this, guards deployed at the show intervened and stopped him. He was immediately handed over to the police. We took him in custody and have sent him for medical examination. He will be arrested soon."
