‘Gabbar Is Back’ earns 13.5 crore in the opening day

Despite opening with negative reviews, Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Gabbar Is Back’ mints in Rs 13.5 crore in the opening day.  It became the 4th highest opening day grosser, defeating 'Holiday', 'Its Entertainment' and OUATIMD at the ticket counter.

For the past couple of weeks, box-office did not see any bumper opening. Things had been very dull. In the coming week there are big releases like Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan starring 'Piku', as well as Anushka , Ranbir starrer 'Bombay Velvet'. So chances are bright that ‘Gabbar Is Back’ might see a downward trend.

Released during holiday, May 1 (International labor Day), 'Gabbar is Back' had an advantage. Directed by ‘Krish’, the film also stars Shruti Haasan, Sunil Grover in lead roles. Kareena Kapoor Khan appears for a cameo in the movie.

Akshay tweeted about the film#The day is FINALLY upon us #GabbarIsBack in cinemas near U ;) Thanks to my Director u brought the villain out in me!!

Really touched by the effort taken by @TeamKhiladi. The change has begun! #GabbarIsBackTomorrow

With such a bumper start, it is highly expected that the film will have a good run at the box-office in the coming days.
