Furlough mix-up: Sanjay Dutt to spend four more days in jail

Four more days are added to Sanjay Dutt’s jail term due to delay in taking his furlough decision. Due to the delay in taking decision regarding Sanjay’s furlough when he was out of jail, his jail term has been extended to four more days. The decision was informed by Maharashtra home minister Ram Shinde said.

"A departmental inquiry would ordered against erring prison officials and action would be taken against them for the delay in deciding the extension of furlough," Shinde told reporters. 32 prisoners were granted leave from December 20, 2014 to January 1, 2015.

Normally 45 days take to take furlough decisions but in Dutt's case, it took 113 days. When Sanjay was out of jail last time, he surrendered before sunset, which is the rule but sent back due to a decision on extension of his furlough was pending.

Dutt’s furlough ended on January 8th. “His furlough was rejected after two days but Dutt remained out of prison until then,” Shinde said.

To compensate the extra time that Sanjay Dutt has spent out of jail, four days are more added to his jail term.

Sanjay Dutt is serving the remaining three and a half years jail term in Pune, Yerawada jail due to the possession of illegal weapons like AK-56 rifle and 9mm pistol.
