Teachers are said to be nation builders. They work in close co-ordination with students in helping to build their future. Teachers are in fact role models for students. Bollywood has not been far behind to depict the teacher-student relationship with aplomb. On the occasion of teachers day let’s have a look at Bollywood best five-teachers depicted on-screen.
Aamir Khan: He was the art and drawing teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, in ‘Taare Zameen Par’. His character showed compassion towards his students. In the very first scene Nikumbh enters the class dressed as a joker. He departed from the usual characterization of a strict teacher with ruler in hand. Nikumbh was a person who believed in having fun along with studies. More than that his out of the way thinking brought a tremendous change in the life of Ishaan (played by Darsheel Safary ). Ishaan was a dyslexic child, who could not explain his problem to the world. The compassionate teacher in Nikumbh , understood his issue . He convinced his parents about his disease and gradually helped him to live a life like a normal child. Amir was also shown as a thought provoking teacher in ‘3 idiots’. He set up a school in Ladakh for impoverished children. He was shown using innovative and practical methods in teaching in his school.
Amitabh Bachchan: ‘Mohabbatein’, ‘Black’ and ‘Aarakshan’. Amitabh has played the role of a teacher in various ways. As the strict principal in ‘Mohabbatein’, discipline and adherence to rules meant everything to him. In his philosophy love was merely a distraction in the path of success. Also he was shown as the eccentric teacher in ‘Black’. Debraj Sahai helps her deaf and dumb student come out her dark world. Her parents used to tie a bell around her to know where she is. The maverick teacher Sahai, throws is out, saying his parents should treat her like a human being and not like an animal. The parents were not convinced about him, but ultimately they gave in to his unusual ways and teaching. Shahrukh Khan: for the be-spectacled Raj Aryan, love was everything in life. As a student he was suspended from Gurukul for falling in love with the principal’s daughter (Played by Aishwarya Rai). She commits suicide as a result. But Raj returns as a teacher to Gurukul, with violin in hand as teacher of music. He teaches his students to live life to the fullest. He takes the side of the students against the Principal (played by Amitabh Bachchan). To him making his students understand the true meaning of love and life is everything. Boman Irani: For Viru Shashrabuddhi, or Virus, in ‘3 idiots’, success in life meant everything. As the principal of his college he had asked his students, if anyone remembers the person who landed second on moon. None remembered. The shrewd principal always stressed that being first was the only thing in life. Boman had also won accolades for his role of dean in his earlier movie ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’.
Nasseruddin Shah : Nasseruddin played the role of Prof. Aman Varma in ‘Sir’ . As a teacher of Philosophy in his college, Nasser was even seen breaking into a jig to the amusement of his class. The character of his was compassionate to understand the problems of his students. He helped a girl with her stammering problem to be successful in life.
