First Look: Ranveer Singh goes bald for ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Raveer Singh has been making extra hard work to make his character Bajirao immortal on silver screen. Starting from learning Marathi, picking up the accent correctly to horse riding, Raneev has gone extra mile by shaving his head. He goes bald to portray the role of ‘Bajirao’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Bajirao Mastani’.  The actor has hired a Marathi teacher to prepare him for the role of historical character Peshwa Bajirao. Deepika Padukone will be his ladylove Mastani.

“Ranveer would have to get his language and diction completely right. The director doesn’t want a hue and cry over the language being mis-pronounced. Ranveer is already familiar with Marathi and can even speak the language, but for this role he needs to get the nuances and layering right.” stated a source close to the actor.

Ranveer Singh needs to look convincing as a Maratha warrior. He also needs to acquire a more somber image than the one he has. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has asked Ranveer to control his nervous energy off screen and use it for the role,” added the source.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ has been Sanjay’s dream project. He has helmed the project 15 years ago when he made ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ with Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan. The filmmaker was keen to make the film with Ash and Salman and waited long for them to patch-up but that did not happen and the movie shelved. But last year after the success of ‘Ram Leela’, Sanjay revived the project and decided to make the film with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

"Preparations for 'Bajirao Mastani' is very intense. I will have to learn Marathi, horse riding, pick up the accent and do a lot of work for the character. I will have to shave off my hair, work on my look and the physical aspect," Ranveer told PTI in an exclusive chat.

"I have allotted fair amount of time to prepare for this film. It is a large commitment for me to give (time) for one project, but the film demands it and I am more than happy to do it. I believe in the director and the film. Through this film we are trying to achieve something that hopefully will be landmark in our cinema," Ranveer said.

Ranveer read about the Maratha leader and is aware about him and the work he did. "I am aware about him. I am pretty much aware about how my character will be shaping up. I will start working for it towards the end of the year," Ranveer said.

Apparently, Karan Johar wanted to cast Ranveer and Deepika for'Shuddhi' but Ranveer chose to do 'Bajirao Mastani' over 'Shuddhi'.

When asked if he was approached for 'Shuddhi', Ranveer said, "I can't comment on any film that I am not doing."

Ranveer Singh will be next seen in YRF's next 'Kill Dill'  opposite Parineeti Chopra and others. The actor will also soon start shooting  Zoya Akhtar's 'Dil Dhadakne Do' in Barcelona in which Ranveer and Priyanka Chopra will be playing siblings, while Anushka Sharma plays the actor's love interest. The film will also star Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah.
