First look of Rani Mukerjee’s ‘Aiyya’ released

Rani Mukerji is coming back on the screen to tickle our funny bones. The first look of the actresses’ much awaited film ‘Aiyya’ has been released.

The promo shows her draped in blue chiffon saree. She is looking gorgeous and sexy. To add twist to it, she also wears oversized goggles. She is seen wearing trinkets, like nose ring and ghungroo in the promo, making it a complete comic look. In fact the first poster of the movie itself seemed very hilarious, which shows her as a Marathi mulgi.

The movie has been directed by Sachin Kundalkar. It also marks the debut of south superstar, Prithviraj. Prithviraj is one of the most popular actors in Malayalam Cinema.

The story of the film revolves around Rani, whose screen name is Meenakshi Deshpande. A graduate in Arts, Meenakshi joins an art college. Her parents are very eager to marry her off. Though, Meenakshi lives a fantasy world of her own and wishes to become an actress. Ultimately she gives in to peer pressure and starts looking for a guy. She is helped in that by one of her friend in the college. She finally meets Prithviraj. She follows him wherever he goes. She also exclaims that she might just like him for his smell. However the story takes a turn and her dreams are shattered.

The makers of ‘Aiyya’ have also found a unique way to promote the film. They have posted a matrimonial ad in newspaper seeking a groom for Rani’s character Meenakshi. The ad reads like, ‘Looking for a decent Bramhin boy for a beautiful Indian girl, whose height is 5.3 and has never been married.’ They also boast about her culinary skills and her affection for children. It is also mentioned that she is also a typical Indian woman, similar to that shown in serials.

Rani is said to be completely involved in the project. She has done extensive research to understand the Maharastrian culture and adapt herself to it. She spoke to Marathi actors and also has spent considerable time watching Marathi films.

The movie has been co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18. Earlier the film was supposed to be released on September 18 but now it has been pushed back after Dusshera. Speaking on that director Kundalkar said, "Yes, we were supposed to release our film on Sep 28, but now the film has been pushed back. There is no specific reason as such. It is a collective decision taken by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18." He also added that it will be released on October 26th
