First look: Aishwarya and Randeep as young Dalbir and Sarabjit

After the leaked pictures of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the elderly Dalbir Kaur in her upcoming film ‘Sarabjit’, the makers of the biopic have officially revealed the first look of the actress in the younger version of Dalbir Kaur.

In the picture, the 42-year-old actress is seen sitting at a desk, dressed simply in a salwar kameez. The first look of Randeep Hooda who plays the titular role has also been released simultaneously. The picture is of a young Sarabjit in a dusty surrounding.

The official Twitter handle of the biopic released the first look pictures late last night by tweeting, “As we said, Here's the surprise for all #AishwaryaRai & @RandeepHooda fans! #Sarbjit.”

The biopic is being directed by Omung Kumar of ‘Mary Kom’ fame. Sarabjit was an Indian farmer in the border state of Punjab who inadvertently ventured into Pakastani territory in an inebriated condition in 1990. He was convicted of spying and terrorism and was imprisoned in a Lahore jail for 23 years before being killed by his inmates following the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in India.

Sarabjit’s elder sister Dalbir Kaur who treated him like her son fought tooth and nail to bring her brother back to the country, but in vain. The film is based on the struggles of Dalbir to get her brother released.

Earlier, Randeep shared his look in the film where he is almost unrecognizable in his bruised skinny body, long hair and bushy beard. The actor underwent extreme make-over and lost 18 kgs in 28 days for the look.

Richa Chadda will be seen in the role of Sarabjit’s wife Sukhpreet. In her first look picture, she comes across as a typical Punjabi woman wearing a colourful salwar kameez with a ‘phulkari’ dupatta and loud make-up. She also dons a ‘mang-tika’ and long braided hair with paranda and colourful bangles on her hands.

The film also features Darshan Kumar as Awais Sheik, a Pakistani lawyer who fought to get justice for Sarabjit.

The shooting of the movie is going on in and around Amritsar in Punjab. The film is slated to hit screens on May 19.
