‘Fan’ mints Rs. 70.28 cr worldwide on 1st weekend


Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s latest flick ‘Fan’ has performed well at the box office and has grossed an amount of Rs. 52. 35 crores on its first weekend. It collected another Rs. 17.93 crores at the international market in two days, taking the worldwide opening weekend total to Rs. 70.28 crores.

With this, ‘Fan’ has become the highest opening weekend grosser of 2016 surpassing Akshay Kumar’s ‘Airlift’ at Rs. 44.30 crores.

The movie opened to a great start when it released on Friday, April 15, and minted Rs. 19. 20 crores. On Saturday and Sunday, the movie did a business of Rs. 15. 40 crores and Rs. 17.75 crores, respectively.

The occupancy level which reached up to 70% on Friday, dropped drastically on Saturday and failed to cross 65% mark. The response improved on Sunday and the occupancy opened up with the high pace of 45% and reached to 70% in the metro cities.

Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s weekend collection figures on Twitter.

“#Fan biz fails to show major growth on Sunday... Fri 19.20 cr, Sat 15.40 cr, Sun 17.75 cr. Total: ? 52.35 cr. India biz,” he posted.

‘Fan’ was released in over 3500 screens in India and around 1100 theatres overseas. The Maneesh Sharma directorial was made on a budget of Rs. 105 crore, including its promotional campaign.

The movie saw Shah Rukh play a double role – as superstar Aryan Khanna and as a crazy and psychotic fan Gaurav. The ‘King of romance’ was seen in a grey-shaded role after a long time and is earning praises for his performance from all quarters.
