‘Eye to Eye’ singer Taher Shah leaves Pakistan after death threats

Pakistani singer Taher Shah, who became an Internet sensation with his singles ‘Eye to Eye’ and ‘Angel’, has reportedly left the country after receiving threats to his life. The singer left Karachi on Wednesday.

It is said that Taher was being threatened by religious extremists for spreading anti-religious messages, but some others maintained that the move is a publicity stunt. Faisal Qureshi, a music and fashion writer was quoted as saying, “For all we know he may have gone to attend the Dubai Shopping Festival.”

Taher’s agent in a statement said, "Pakistan's famous singer Taher Shah, who is known for spreading love through his music had been receiving life threats for quite some time."

The statement carried by local daily The Express Tribune, added, “Recently Shah made his film debut with Pakistan's first online film and it seems like the haters are not admiring his approach of using arts to the benefit of mankind. Perhaps that is the reason why he was getting threats. Shah was left heartbroken when the government failed to provide him security and as a result of which he decided to leave Pakistan."

Taher’s manager also confirmed the singer’s departure from Pakistan, and was quoted as saying, “Even I don't know where he has gone to but he has left Pakistan for sure.”

Taher rose to fame with his debut single ‘Eye to Eye’ which went viral online. He followed it up with another music video ‘Angel’ this year, which also broke the internet. Both the songs have been trolled on social media through memes and reconstructed videos.
