Ex-driver of Shahid, Sonakshi now sells momo in Andheri

Here is an inspiring story of man, named Suraj Lama from Darjeeling. Lama is now a well known name in Andheri. He now rules the heart of the people of the resident by his delicious momo which he served every evening in West Andheri. He sells momo in his cycle every evening and helping in his new endeavor is his wife Vijayata.

Suraj and his wife Vijayata have a very interesting background. Both has filmy connection. Without stretching the matter anymore. Let me tell you that Lama earlier worked as a driver for Bollywood stars like Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor and his wife Vijayata recently left the job of cook at singer Shibani Kashyap's home to help her husband.

Lama, who hails from village of Mirik in Darjeeling win the hearts of Mumbai's street food lovers. Ever since started selling momos on a cycle, he became quite famous among the Versova and Yari Road residents.

"I was not happy doing the driver's job. And, with Uber and Ola expanding their business, the demand for a private driver was going down," said Lama, who has worked as a driver for Bollywood actors like Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor. "I love making momos and it reminds me of home. When I first made Sonakshi Sinha try them, she loved them. I knew they were good, but, I wasn't sure if others would enjoy them too," he added.

Suraj Lama worked as a driver for 25 years. But he quit his job last month to start something his of own.

Lama follows the recipe of his mother. Without revealing his secret recipe, Lama says, “My momos are just like my mother's. I follow her recipe. I don't use preservatives or artificial colouring. A lot of people have told me that they taste like Delhi's momos, but, they are really a taste of my hometown.”

As a driver he would earn Rs 20,000 per month,  but now by selling momo he earns around Rs 700 every day. Lama sells a plate of six momos for Rs 40 (veg) and Rs 50 (non-veg). “It's tiring, yet satisfying. I hope to open a shop soon. If people support me, it can happen.” said Lama.

His wife Vijayata is his helping hand, until last month she was cook at singer Shibani Kashyap's home but she quit her job to support her husband's new venture. “We have given up our work for this business, and if it is not received well, we could lose a lot. Nevertheless, we are hopeful,” said Vijayata.
