End of Brangelina: Angelina Jolie files for divorce from Brad Pitt

Actress Angelina Jolie has filed for a divorce from actor Brad Pitt, signaling an end for ‘Brangelina’ one of Hollywood’s most glamorous high profile celebrity couples.

"This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," Angelina’s attorney Robert Offer said in the statement on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old ‘Salt’ actress filed the papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences as grounds for the split. She has cited their separation date as September 15, according to entertainment website TMZ.

Angelina has sought full physical custody of their six children, and asked the judge to give visitation rights to Brad. She does not want Brad to have joint physical custody, only joint legal custody. The actress was “extremely upset" by Brad’s parenting methods.

She is "fed up" with Brad's consumption of weed and alcohol, and mixed with "an anger problem," she felt it became dangerous for the children, the website stated citing sources.

Collectively known as "Brangelina," Angelina and Brad were one of the entertainment world's most visible couples, due to their good looks, successful films and activism. They got married in 2014 at their French estate, after being together for 10 years. The couple has six children – three adopted (Maddox, Pax, Zahara) and three biological (the twins Max and Vivienne, and Shiloh).

Angelina was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, while Brad was married to actress Jennifer Aniston.
