Deepika Padukone to wear 20 kg armour in ‘Bajirao Mastani’

According to the latest report, Deepika Padukone is going to wear 20 kg armour for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama ‘Bajirao Mastani’. The film brings together the on and off screen couple, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone second time after ‘Ram Leela’.

Throwing light on the new project, Deepika will play Mastani in the film and she will be seen performing few action sequences. To make the character look more authentic, the actress will be wearing heavy armour weighing around 20 kg.

A source reveals, “She is currently preparing for one of her toughest shoots. For certain parts of the film, she will have to wear an armour weighing over 20 kg.”

Deepika will also have to perform action scenes in it. “It is an intense war sequence and she has been learning sword fighting, among other things, for the same. She has now begun wearing the costume and practising her stunts as she will have to look effortless on screen,” adds the source.

Earlier, Deepika had worn a ghagra weighing 30 kgs in 'Ram-Leela'. For the character of Mastani, Deepika is also taking lessons in martial arts and sword fighting. Meanwhile, the shooting of the movie has already started with Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra who is playing Kashibai, the great Maratha warrior Bajirao’s first wife. Deepika will now join the cast and crew in Rajasthan on March 8.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial venture 'Bajirao Mastani' also stars Aditya Pancholi as the villain.

The periodic drama is based on Peshwa Baji Rao and his romantic saga with his first wife Kashibai and second wife Mastani.

The film will hit the theatres on December 25, 2015.
