Deepika Padukone to be paid Rs 14 crores for ‘83’

Deepika Padukone has joined the cast of Kabir Khan’s ‘83’. The ‘Piku’ actress will play Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev in the film based on 1983 world cup win. Apparently, Deepika has been paid a whopping amount of Rs 14 crores to be part of the film.

“‘83 is about the Indian cricket team led by Kapil Dev winning the 1983 World Cup in England and Wales. How much of a role Deepika can have as Kapil Dev’s wife in a plot that is not devoted to Kapil’s off-field life?” wonders a source.

Ever since Deepika stepped into the acting world, she has been playing character which focuses on her. She has agreed to be part of ‘83’ which will mainly focus on the game of cricket and Ranveer Singh’s character became of her husband. It is believed that Ranveer convinced her to be part of the movie.

“She was in two minds and wasn’t sure if she wanted  to play a non-central  character,” says another source close  to the producer. So how did she get convinced to finally do the role? “I think Ranveer almost convinced her, then the zeros on the cheque did the rest,” says a source close to the producers of ‘83.

Speaking about her role in ‘83’, the ‘Padmaavat’ actor said, “I am so glad that Kabir (director Kabir Khan) came to me with it. This happened a couple of months ago, when he was still casting the boys for the film. It’s just that I was busy with Chhapaak (her production debut, which wrapped up recently) and we were waiting for the right moment to make the announcement.”

However, Ranveer is delighted that finally they are doing a film together in which they “don’t die in the end”.

Deepika announced the beginning of her shoot schedule for the film with, “& on to the next...Thank You @kabirkhankk for this incredible honour...! #RomiDev #Day1 @83thefilm @ranveersingh”. Ranveer had a wonderful response: “and this time we don’t die in the end! Yay!” he wrote on her post.

The film also features Pankaj Tripathi, Saaqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk, Harrdy Sandhu, actor Jiiva and Chirag Patil.

‘83’ is set to hit theatres on April 10, 2020.
