Deepika Padukone replaces Kareena Kapoor in ‘Shuddhi’

Karan Johar’s highly anticipated film, ‘Shuddhi’ has finally got its female lead. The lucky one to grab the meaty project is none other than the leading heroine of Bollywood and long legged dusky beauty Deepika Padukone. Deepika has been roped in for ‘Shuddhi’. She has replaced Kareena Kapoor to play the female role.

However, Deepika is keen to do the movie and once said that if the makers approach her, she would love to do the film.

"I would love to do that film but I don't think Karan (Johar) would come to me with something that he didn't think that I would do justice to," said the 'Ram-leela' actress.

"But if he thinks that I would do justice to it then I would love to do that film," she added.

The actress is fine on working with any other actor in 'Shuddhi'?

"Sure, why not? But like I said it depends on what they (makers of 'Shuddhi') themselves plan to do with the project if it even happens in the first place," Deepika said.

Ever since Karan Johar announced ‘Shuddhi’, the film has been hitting the headlines for its casting couch. Initially, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor was finalized for the film but after Hrithik backed out of the movie due to personal and health related issues, Kareena too stepped back. Grapevine also buzzed that Karan has shelved the project but soon he announced the release date of the film which again developed curiosity among the cine-lovers.

It was also rumoured that Ranveer Singh will fill up Hrithik Roshan’s gap but there has been no official confirmation on the same. In the meantime, Karan’s close buddy and superstar Shahrukh Khan’s name also surfaced but not yet confirmed.

‘Shuddhi’ is slated for Christmas 2015 release next year. With no lead actors finalized, Karan Johar announcing the release date of the film cemented the report that Shahrukh Khan will be signed for the magnum opus. “SHUDDHI will release on Friday the 25th of December,2015…the Lead cast will be announced shortly..,” Karan tweeted.

If Shahrukh Khan signs ‘Shuddhi’ then it will mark the return of King Khan to Dharma Productions after ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010). Karan Malhotra will direct the film and Karan Johar will don the producer's hat. If Deepika stepped in then this would be her fourth film with Shahrukh after ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Happy New Year’.

‘Shuddhi’ is Karan's Dharma Productions to be directed by Karan Malhotra.
