Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor's ‘Tamasha' postponed

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Tamasha’ was scheduled for release at the end of 2015. But latest reports say that the film’s release date has been postponed. ‘Tamasha’ will now be released in July of 2016.

Fans were eagerly waiting for this film for obvious reasons. Deepika and Ranbir Kapoor were going to share the screen space after ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. This last movie they had done together had been immensely successful. The romantic comedy was a Karan Johar directorial and was released in May 2013. It did very well at the box office and went on to become the seventh highest grossing Bollywood film of all time in the country. Deepika and Ranbir have not done any movie together since then. But it will be another year before both of them appear together again.

There are many reasons for this postponement. One of the reasons is the lead star of the film. Apparently, Ranbir has several films coming this year. February will see the release of ‘Roy’. In May, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ will also be released. Then the Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will hit the theatres in November. This flood of films is the reason why Ranbir wants to delay ‘Tamasha’. The actor does not want his movies to be released back to back. That is why he felt that this movie should be released in 2016, rather than this year.

The other reason for the delay is yet another lead actor of ‘Tamasha’, Deepika Padukone. Deepika’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ was scheduled to be released on the same date as ‘Tamasha’. In this one too, Deepika plays the lead role. So it was expected that either of the film’s release date would have to be shifted.

‘Tamasha’ has been directed by Imtiaz Ali and the music has been composed by the maestro A. R. Rahman. Major part of the film has been shot in Corsica, France. Deepika said in an interview, that her character is a fan of Asterix, a French comic series. This character sets out on an adventure and travels to France where she meets the character played by Ranbir.

Deepika’s role seems quite interesting, as director Imtiaz Ali too revealed a great deal about it, “The character that Deepika plays in the movie is Tara Maheshwari and her family owns many tea gardens. We’ve borrowed the title of ‘Darjeeling Impex’ to portray the company for the film.” As for Ranbir, he plays a Jaypee University of Information Technology graduate.
