Deepika Padukone argues with Baba in ‘Piku’

A million eyes are on ‘Piku’ since the project was announced- because of the stellar cats it features. In this upcoming comedy drama, Deepika Padukone would be sharing the screen space with none other than Amitabh Bachchan. Now the trailer of the film is out. Looking at the first few scenes from ‘Piku’ one could say that the father-daughter bond couldn’t have been portrayed in a sweeter way!

‘Piku’ is based on the very special theme of father-daughter relationship. Moushumi Chatterjee would be appearing as Deepika’s family member. Known as Rana Chowdhary in the film, Irrfan Khan has been roped in to play the love interest of Deepika whose character is named Piku. The trailer features Piku and her Baba constantly arguing and complaining about each other. The dutiful daughter has to manage her work and take care of her cranky dad at the same time. The reason why Baba is so annoyed is a serious one- he suffers from constipation!

The filmmakers highlight this fact by giving a humorous punchline- “Motion se hi emotion”. Deepika is supported by Irrfan Khan who appreciates that she handles her work and simultaneously takes care of her “90-year-old son”. Though the father makes the job tough for her daughter, he does his part of making the audience laugh as well. He sends his daughter incredible messages like – “semi-liquid motion first, then two days gas and constipation. What should I do?” at Piku’s office!

@PikuTheFilm tweeted the lovely poster that gives an idea of the storyline. Irrfan Khan is seen in a serious mood while Big B’s character is that if a typical old aged father. While the most special aspect of the poster is no doubt Deepika in a traditional look. Talking about her character, she says that- “Piku is someone who I relate with, a lot. In fact she is very relatable for all women. Women are born to multitask. The situations in the film, too, I guess are something every one of us will identify with.”

Deepika has worked hard for this challenging role that features her as a Bengali girl. She has learned Bengali for ‘Piku’. The principal photography began in August last year in Kolkata. Scenes have been shot at Howrah Bridge in Kolkata’s Shyambazar neighborhood. Moreover, it has been reported that the cast and crew have filmed at Bishop Lefroy Road- that Satyajit Ray’s residence. The film is a Shoojit Sircar directorial and would hit the screens this May.
